Some people got fired at work today...am in a dark mood and came up with this..well poetry doesn't seem half as interesting when written in a good mood, does it?
"Stained"
I have blood on my hands
Pains that won’t go away
Wash as hard as I might
Stains that won’t go away
The heart quickens now, and then more
Worry first, then rage, then tears
Swimming in a pool of disbelief
There is no place for my fears
Is sorrow what shapes us
If yes, what use is glee?
If trial is what makes us
What use of being free?
Send me to the gallows
Let me my time bid
In trial I may learn
What in freedom I never did
Reflections of why this, why me and
Wish I could have changed fate
Wash as hard as I might
I have blood on my hands mate

Some smiles make your day!
There are all kinds of smiles flashed at you in the course of a routine day. There is the customary, 'hi-i-got-no-time-to-stop-now' smile by a hurrying acquaintance. There is the 'hi-i-don't-know-your-name-so-i-just-smile' flashed by the girl who lives two doors away from you. There is the smile from the cute guy standing in a queue parallel to yours and then there is the knowing, wicked smile from your idiotic best friend who knows how to embarass you best!
And then there is a smile.. flashed by a pure heart, one that completely lifts your spirits and reminds you that the world is , well, not so cold after all! I saw such a smile in Sujatha, one of our hostel staff. Sujatha is someone who has a lot of problems of her own at home, yet she will always have a pleasant countenance and is ever ready to greet you with a smile at the hostel entrance. After a horrid day, filled with loathsome jargon and fiery arguments.. i came home ( yes hostel is home now) to find Sujatha flashing me an earnest smile, radiant and simple. That smile surely warmed the cockles of my heart. I smiled back and lo and behold, all the tensions of the day just evaporated.. seemed pointless. I went to bed smiling, dreaming of sunshine.

Of Rain and Resilience...
A summer may be eventful. A summer may be drab. A summer may see the advent of grey clouds. It may bring in thunder and lightning, drizzles and rain that some welcome and others find depressing. Yet the grey clouds, the rain, the tears that get mistaken for the rain drops, they are all necessary.
For when the clouds move out and the sun beams down on you from a spotless azure sky, you stop and wonder why you thought the clouds were plotting against you. Its all beautiful again, its sunny and green, and life comes a full circle.... again and yet again...

The simple pleasures of life...
How many times have you heard that the best things in life come free? Well, cliches are cliches cos they make sense each time! And nothing else fits better.
Have you ever admired a pebble on a river bank, rounded to perfection by the river's fickle waves? Or have you observed a monarch butterfly, fluttering about with flames in its wings? Or the time you just sat on a swing, surrounded by beautiful plants, swaying along with the gentle zephyr with a songbird for company? Sounds poetic? Well, thats what these things do to you. Even idiots become poetic.
Nature does have these treasures. But sometimes other things have the same quality too. Like the gratitude you experience when you wake up and realize you still have an hour to sleep! Or the sudden declaration of a holiday! Or the loud peals of laughter you and your equally boisterous friend just cannot control right in the midst of a really austere environment! Or even the time you gaze into the vastness of the ocean with that someone special, under a starry sky. These things are real. And these are the things that make you smile, these are the things you remember when you look back. So spend more of your time on these things.
Spend time finding these small moments, spend an equal amount of time reliving them, cos these are your true treasures.. something nooone can take away from you.
Maybe i sound like i have a pair of rose tinted glasses on.
Happiness is a state we all want to achieve. But the very concept is surely lost on someone who cannot find contentment, peace, pleasure, any of these or all of these in any of the things around him/her. You just have to search....with the right pair of glasses!
